The Best Digital Pianos for Beginner Students: A Teacher's Guide
As piano teachers and parents, one of the most important decisions we make is choosing the right instrument for our beginning students. Whether you're a fellow teacher advising families or a parent shopping for your child, this guide will help you find a quality digital piano that sets students up for success.
Part 5: Book Recommendations for Intermediate Piano
Today I have some book recommendations for intermediate piano. I always like to teach using a couple of different books for each student. Here are some books I’ve been using recently:
Part 4: Book Recommendations for Beginner Piano
If you’re a piano teacher you’ve already noticed all the books available to use for teaching. Actually, you probably haven’t noticed them all and are most likely using books you yourself used as a child. When I first started teaching, I did the same exact thing. Throughout the years I've grown to have my own favorites books to use with my students. I’m here to share some more books that I use with my beginner students. Most of these books I’ll share with you today I use as add-ons to the Piano Adventure Lesson books by Nancy and Randall Faber. Here are some of the books:
Rainbow keys: a fun tool for teaching the groups of 2 and 3 black piano keys
I'm excited to announce my new product for sale: Rainbow Keys – a fun and educational tool designed to help beginner piano students identify the groups of 2 and 3 black keys. These colorful black key covers are perfect for assisting young students in recognizing patterns on the piano keyboard.
Part 3: Book Recommendations for Beginner Piano-Supplemental books
When it comes to beginner piano students, I tend to use The Piano Adventures Piano Method by Nancy and Randall Faber. I like to pair this method with other books to reinforce my students' note reading and to help them understand different rhythms.
This list will show you some of the books my students have enjoyed learning from and books which I find well-written and great for teaching.
How to get rid of performance anxiety in your students
Stage fright is a real thing. Your hands get sweaty, you blank out on your piano piece and the eyes that are all on you while you're on stage suddenly feel very scary.
Here are some tips on how to help your students with performance anxiety
Teaching Piano Students When They Don’t Believe In Themselves
Learning music is such an incredible thing to learn. Not only is it learning a new language of notes and dynamics and feelings but it’s a way to express feelings through sound. But just like anything new, it can feel frustrating at times to learn something and feel like you’re not learning at the right speed or just plain hard on yourself.
Teaching the Groups of Two and Three Black Keys (The Fun Way)
One of my favorite ways to teach toddlers the groups of two and three black keys on the piano is with foam sheets. I take two different colored foam sheets and cut rectangular shapes that fit perfectly on the group of two and three black keys. I make seven identical cutouts for each group; a total of 14 cutouts. I like to use one color for the two black keys and another color foam sheet for the three black keys.
Part 2: Book Recommendations for Beginners to Advanced Piano Students
Have you ever been to a music store or searched online for the best piano book to buy for you or your student? It can be overwhelming to know which books to get and I am here to help! There are so many piano methods and books out there. Here are a list of piano series that I highly recommend and use everyday for my students.

Part 1: Book Recommendations for Beginner Piano
If you’re a piano teacher you may be asking yourself which books are the best to start with a new student. In my years of teaching I have found these books to be the best for beginners. Some books begin right away with reading notes on the staff. Other books begin with learning the finger numbers and learning how to differentiate between the groups of two and three black keys. It’s up to you as the teacher to know which book/s to give to your new student. Going to Sam Ash and looking through all the books can be overwhelming. Especially if you are just starting out and don’t know which books you should use with your student. I like to have a few different books with me in the first lesson to see which one we might begin with. Here are my favorites:

One day, a friend of my family, and a genius Cuban pianist stayed at our house the night before her performance at Carnegie Hall. She sat on the sofa and read her concerto as if she were reading a novel. She started to practice and my dad called me down to listen to her practice her warm-up exercises. "Do you hear how she is practicing? She is one of the most incredible concert pianists. Listen to how slowly she is practicing." I'm 99% sure I

Hi all! I want to share with you a new series we’ll be doing. In my years at Manhattan School of Music Precollege, there was a showcase called music hour. Basically, students would perform one piece in a performance space to practice playing in front of an audience.
COVID-19 VS. In person lessons
I make my living teaching piano. I’ve taught lessons at music schools, my students’ homes and my home studio. But what does one do when you’re not allowed to go outside? I’ve adapted as we’ve all had to and started my first week of teaching online lessons. I’m not going to lie; I never understood how online lessons could work with piano, but it totally does work! Here are some things that have made online lessons work smoothly for me:
Here’s how I go about a student's first piano lesson
There's something so special about giving someone their very first piano lesson. Be it the 4 year old who has been begging their parents to learn piano, the 16 year old who really wants to learn that song they heard on the radio or the 57 year old who has always wanted to learn piano but never came around to it; there's usually a healthy dose of nervousness, excitement and child-like energy!
How I became a piano teacher
I grew up in a musical household. My father is a concert pianist and professor, my sister an opera singer and my mom a lover of music. My father had piano student’s day and night. As a kid, I would come home from school and my father would be teaching. Sometimes there would be yelling at the lack of practice but most always, there was laughter and enjoyment at both ends.
